This Jesus Thing

I was raised an atheist in a middle-classed conservative household in a predominately Jewish neighborhood.   My father was sent to church and catholic school, and even at one point considered entrance into the seminary.   He rebelled and when I and my sister came along, my dad was determined not to force religion upon us, although we did get baptized.

Additionally, I was educated in a public school system that taught, among other things, that we were headed into the next ice age and evolution explained the existence of mankind.

I’ve always enjoyed a good debate and spent many evenings with my logically challenged classmates arguing the existence of God.   Faith arguments are always difficult to reconcile, and my opponents in these jousts used faith exclusively to bolster their positions.

My secular education was based strictly upon science, fact, and logic, or so I thought.

As my critical thinking skills improved and I matured I began to question some of the truths I thought were infallible.   For instance, to imagine that evolution clearly explains the existence of life on earth, one must except faith based arguments that the quantum leaps which separate life forms and species do not give evidence of creation by an Intelligent Designer, but give evidence that mankind just has not yet found the evidence supporting the claims of evolution.

Furthermore, analysis of some simple life forms, with some twenty or so working parts, where these parts have very specific and deliberate functions, appear to have been designed by a thinking being.   No plausible evolutionary postulate can explain the development of these little living entities; for the Evolutionists; once again, a leap of faith provides their sanctuary.

That Evolutionists get their butts kicked in every single debate where they square off against the Intelligent Designers to such an extent that the Evolutionists refuse any further debate certainly does little to prove veracity in their claims.   Kind of like Al Gore’s Inconvenient Truth explanation of CO2 levels in ice where he says, …it’s not important to totally understand the complexity of this chart just take my word for it

Following the Evolutionist’s arguments explaining mankind’s existence requires one leap of faith after another.   You’ll find their adherence to faith is stronger and more inept than the extremist fundamentalist’s heretical embrace of Christianity, and after you batter them with their own hypocritical faith based clench of conviction, ask them to explain the Cambrian Explosion.   That’s when they’ll start swearing at you.

If we all do exist here on earth via some cosmic accident, it sure is one heck of an amazing happenstance.   I mean, it’s one thing to imagine that we evolved from dust particles in a massive nebula, without any intelligent coercion,  to the complex living system that today is earth, but to really investigate the depth and breadth of our little world and imagine that all the natural resources that this planet possesses in just the right specific quantities that mankind can create and prosper in the manner that we do today is something beyond amazing.   The leap of faith required to believe this, and the leap of faith required to fill all the holes in the theory of evolution, makes it not so far-fetched that Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross for all of us and our transgressions though that rapture thing is kind of tough to wrap your brain around.

Even if my critical thinking skills had not improved to the point where I asked these simple questions only to hear silence as the best argument in reply, one annoying fact makes it impossible to embrace the secular progressive position that there is no God; liberals suggest it is a fact.

It is not possible that liberals could be wrong about every philosophy they prescribe and magically have it right on God.

Jesus gives us a pretty good deal, try not to be too big a jackass here on earth, consider the almighty, and you get a ticket to the good place and if he’s been bullshitting us?

Then the liberals are right…

It would be the only time in history…

I think not.

Merry Christmas America.

  1. As an Electrical Engineer, a man who views science as a hobby and a Vietnam Veteran.

    Your right on………….

  2. Abdul Baha explains the evolution of species each within its own construct – man has always been man, right from the earliest times. Cats have always been cats (or camels cats) etc. This is a quite different view of creation and evolution, and ties in with what Jesus said – before Abraham was, I am. That is, the spirit of man is distinct, and the other creatures are subject to development in their own capacities – but separate from man.

  3. Like every other intelligent designer devotee, his rejection of evolution is based on a very limited, if not flawed, understanding of it. The universe is almost unimaginably huge, with millions, if not billions of planets which have existed for billions of years. To say that there is anything remarkable about life springing up on ONE planet (that we know of) with those odds is just silly. But I will get to the real flaw in the intelligent design argument… So you guys are saying that this world is SOOO complex and miraculous that the ONLY solution is that God (presumably an even MORE complex creation) created it? Ok, then how did God come into being and who created him?? Your argument is logically flawed…

  4. So let’s get this right, this God you say created us, but yet he left us on this earth like wild animals..????

Let me tell you something God was created for capitalism some dude way back when wanted to get rich or maybe he just wanted the power. Either way it was for personal gain.

  5. It has always been easier to say, “Santa Claues did it. Are god did it.” For some reason man has a difficult time with; “We do not know yet.” A hundred and ten odd years ago man could not fly yet. Fortunately the Wright brothers did not say if man was meant to fly; “Santa would given him reindeer.”
History is rather clear on this, all discovered remnants of human beings have in one form are another sought super natuaral intervention. Go figure, get hit by a sunomie just once and you would want a little relief.
Fortunately no amount of chicken innards, or prayer beads, will stop an earth quake. Man was born with one basic tool of survival; (REASON), not wings are claws.
And the oppositte of reason is faith. Not to mention every human being ever born was born an athesist.
But with out one prayer and not one drop of blood.
Santa did manage to bring my children a few gifts.
And my how they did smile this morning.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

  6. Do you believe in something greater then yourself? If not! THEN YOU BELIEVE IN NADA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. John 3:16

“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25

  8. “We must question the story logic of having an all-knowing all-powerful God, who creates faulty Humans, and then blames them for his own mistakes.”
Gene Roddenberry Writer: “Star Trek: The Next Generation”.

“Is man one of God’s blunders? Or is God one of man’s blunders?”
Friedrich Nietzsche; was a nineteenth-century German philosopher

“We can allow satellites, planets, suns, universe, nay whole systems of universe[s], to be governed by laws, but the smallest insect, we wish to be created at once by special act.”
    — Charles Robert Darwin (12 February 1809 – 19 April 1882) was an English naturalist.[I] After becoming eminent among scientists for his field work and inquiries into geology, he proposed and provided scientific evidence that all species of life have evolved over time from one or a few common ancestors through the process of natural selection.[1] The fact that evolution occurs became accepted by the scientific community and the general public in his lifetime, while his theory of natural selection came to be widely seen as the primary explanation of the process of evolution in the 1930s,[1] and now forms the basis of modern evolutionary theory. In modified form, Darwin’s scientific discovery remains the foundation of biology, as it provides a unifying logical explanation for the diversity of life.

  9. God only created humans with minds of their own, he did not create their mistakes; that they (humans) have made those choices on their own.

  10. Ah! The tired old argument, who created God. Those who try to justify this theory of evolution, always seem to contradict themselves into corners, don’t they. On the one hand, it’s argued that the vast universe with all it’s complexity (and opportunities one presumes, for life to evolve) was some coincidence or accident. The man who understood all these things best has said “God does NOT play dice”, implying (1) God exists and (2) HE made it happen, controls it, and there His rationality existed before it all, and will survive it all. He Is. Or as God himself said, “I AM”.

Anyway, the contradiction. Vast. Complex. Huge. many stars and planets. Well ordered with laws governing them we still can’t understand. yet, there is only ONE planet that we have found through any sort of investigation we can devise, that has intelligent life. Life that includes man, who was always man, and cats who always were cats. Only ONE planet. Whose intelligent creatures from the BEGINNING have been driven to reconnect with their creator, NOT with some imaginary, hairy, stooped shouldered, grunting ape-like ancestor.

The ONLY “theory” that explains it all consistently and accurately from scientific (i.e. obsreved) standards IS the creation story given to us BY God. Not a SINGLE part of the theory of evolution has been proven. Not one. To say otherwise, is to be a conscious liar to oneself, and the rest of us. And yes, I was trained as a nuclear engineer in college, so am not some idiot who hasn’t been exposed to scientific methods, proofs, and arguments. As a scientist, from that perspective, I can validly state that not one premise of evolution has been proven. The theory remains, a theory, with no supporting proof at all. To those believers who claim it is fact, they are as much subscribing to a religion as we are, but WE have the proofs of observation and testimony of witnesses to the facts of OUR religion. The belief in Christ has far more scientific basis

  11. I have a few points:

    1. “If we all do exist here on earth via some cosmic accident, it sure is one heck of an amazing happenstance”. Firstly can you cite any evolutionists who have ever said this because this is total fabrication of the mainstream evolutionist stance. Secondly you appear to be resting your argument here on wighful thinking rather than proper evidence.

    2. “Furthermore, analysis of some simple life forms, with some twenty or so working parts, where these parts have very specific and deliberate functions, appear to have been designed by a “thinking” being”. ” Appear” eh? Where is the evidence that they actually were? Again, like so many creationists, you are resorting to wishful thinking rather than hard evidence.

    3. “The ONLY “theory” that explains it all consistently and accurately from scientific (i.e. obsreved) standards IS the creation story given to us BY God.” Just because you observe something does not make it a scientific fact. It has to be tested and re-tested. Also could you please produce evidence against evolution rather than simple polemic. Perhaps this will help you to start looking into the subject a little deeper

    4. “The leap of faith required to believe this, and the leap of faith required to fill all the holes in the theory of evolution, makes it not so far-fetched that Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross for all of us and our transgressions—though that rapture thing is kind of tough to wrap your brain around.”
No leap of faith required at all actually given the scientific evidence. How many holes can you tell me there are in the theory of evolution?
It seems a rather big leap of faith on the other hand to think that there is a supernatural being that created light before the sun (what alternative energy source was used there?) and that some story about as believable as harry potter is somehow a divine scripture.

  12. Actually, Matt, the burden is NOT on the scientist to prove something is NOT true. So, that being said, I don’t have to attempt to prove at all that evolution is not true. YOU have to prove it IS true. Scientific proofs, by the way, BEGIN with observation. True, the theory must be proven through observation and replication with the same results observed consistently, but you can’t replicate what you can’t observe, and you can’t scientifically prove what you can’t replicate.
There has been NO observed or proven part of the theory of evolution. If evolution was true, we’d see some continuing evidence of it. It would not have ceased to function mysteriously. it would be a continuing process. We could observe it happening even if it was just one species evolving into another. Ain’t happening.

Jesus Christ existed. We have that evidence. He was able to perform miracles that humans cannot do or replicate even today. For that we have evidenciary testimony even by his enemies of these deeds being done. Christ was crucified. That’s fact. He rose from the dead and appeared to many. That’s fact by observation and testimony of many. One does not have to accept a fact, but that does not change it’s being a fact.
His resurrection WAS documented. It was unexpected, even when he told his followers it would happen. Even they did not believe the evidence at first. Not until he had shown himself in the flesh to all the followers and many others besides. 12 men do NOT suffer horrible deaths and torture for a lie.

Can his resurrection be replicated? Well, yes, it was. He replicated it before his own resurrection. Nobody else has been able to do so. Why, you ask? Because he IS God. He HAS the power over life and death. He validated the creation story. Since he is the author of all creation, he IS the best validation of it. The evidence of his Truth is all around us. I can provide proofs for my theory. That’s my burden. Not to disprove yours.

  13. Go get ’em William!

Listen Matt, I played on your side of the fence for a long time and experimented with every argument there is, but no matter how I tried I never could close the deal…if you will. Now that is not a testament that God is and evolution isn’t, but when it comes to holes evolution has nothing but…

I also began to recognize the brightest and most successful people I know were devoutly religious, and these are people with very strong technical and scientific skills. Big deal you say…

Sir Isaac Newton, perhaps the brightest man to ever walk the earth spent more time and energy in his study and devotion to the almighty than even to mathematics.

Benjamin Franklin, the father of electronics, and a couple other minor accomplishments left this on his epitaph:

    The body of
    B. Franklin, Printer
(Like the Cover of an Old Book
    Its Contents torn Out
And Stript of its Lettering and Gilding)
    Lies Here, Food for Worms.
    But the Work shall not be Lost;
For it will (as he Believ’d) Appear once More
In a New and More Elegant Edition
    Revised and Corrected
    By the Author.

If you are going to take my words out of context and quote me to attack a single word: “appear”—O.K. you got me, but where is the evolutionary hypothesis which shows that I am wrong?

Finally, you missed the main thesis of my piece:

Name me one instance where a liberal was right. Don’t bother, it has never happened.

P.S.  It is easy to create light without sun–flashlight, matches, smash rocks together, nuclear fission…

  14. Apologies for the late reply.

    1. You can’t totally prove or disprove any theory if you want to place such high conditions for a theory to be ‘proven’. Personally I choose what theory is correct based on the amount of evidence in support of it. Whereas there is zero evidence in support of the creationism (which I will return to later) the amount of evidence of the evolution of the earth through millions of years is ‘piling up all the time’ as Richard Dawkins would say.
“There has been NO observed or proven part of the theory of evolution”. WRONG. Take the discovery of fossils for instance or the shape of mountains and continents. More recently there is this I fail to understand why evos refuse to take any notice of science.

    2. Your ‘proof’ says nothing about God at all. You just say that a guy who lived (roughly, we are not sure exactly) 2000 years ago died and then went missing and some fanatical sect decided to create an Elvis like cult about him. Given that your ‘evidence’ is based on ancient scriptures endlessly reinterpreted over centuries is it not possible that they were misread or perhaps mistranslated at least several hundred times?

    3. “I never could close the deal”. That’s because arguing with ‘believers’ is like banging your head against a brick wall. Their ‘evidence’ is not scientific but based on ridiculous obfuscation and contrived dualism. I don’t doubt that there are forces in the universe we cannot explain but to make a huge leap and say everything happens because of god is just ridiculous. And you don’t need to be a liberal, all you need to be is an atheist. I am a conservative but I am also an atheist.

ps. Ah so god used a flashlight, some match sticks and rocks to create light then. Fair enough. Not sure why he would want to make the sun then if he had already made light why bother with the hassle of creating a giant ball of gas to give produce light?

The only thing worse than a crazy person, is a crazy person with a weapon. Any thinking person can easily forget the centuries of manmade brain washing and determine for themselves the impossibility of life, as all life forms know it, having been purposefully designed by anything but an incompetent lunatic. To worship such a concept proves that most people are still early in their mental evolution. Just a simple observation, one of many that any thinking person can come up with on their own, why would even the dumbest engineer create life forms that are forced to kill and devour other life forms and then hold itself out as a benign entity? Why would any actions taken in a human’s lifetime earn yet another lifetime to infinity? That is similar to a nano second versus infinity. Is there even one factual proof of ANY religion? Yet ignorant, misguided, low intellect individuals continue to be willing to kill (early and often) other life forms while deluding themselves that they are “good” persons.
If you believe in ANY god entity you are operating on the same intelligence level as the earliest caveman, and you are harming everyone and everything around you as a result. It is long past time for every individual, who is a worthwhile human, to truly be accountable for their actions, not just scream loudly and wave around weapons. Thinkers have weapons too and because we can think, can usually overpower anyone who chooses not to. Let’s quit acting like 300 lb kindergartners and work together towards better lives for all. It doesn’t matter that your parentage was not able to understand these simple things, you should be able to—unless you are content to be the BAD person.
